State Senator Josh McKoon will soon announce a run for Secretary of State

Josh McKoon is expected to qualify for Georgia Secretary of State on Thursday, according to new reports. He will face Republican candidates including State Representatives Buzz Brockway and Brad Raffensperger, and Alpharetta Mayor David Belle Isle.

The news was published Wednesday on Muscogee-All on Georgia, a site that names McKoon as the Publisher and CEO.

McKoon's entry into the race ends months of rumors, where it was believed the State Senator could have been eyeing a run for Governor or Attorney General. In a March interview with the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, he said that nothing was off the table.

“If there is a good conservative candidate who can win, I want to write that person a check,” McKoon told the paper. “Right now, there is not a clear candidate that fits that bill. I know some people are considering it.”

“What I will not allow to happen is for the Republican primary to go forward without there being a true conservative candidate that will allow for real change in Atlanta,” he added.
