Handel takes a Rubio-esque stance on Russia investigation

As controversy mounts over an investigation aimed at Russian interference in the U.S. election and its possible ties to President Trump's 2016 campaign, Republican Karen Handel is taking a Rubio-like posture. Like the Florida Senator, who recently supported an "independent, thorough and fair" probe, Handel also says she is open to gathering facts in the case.

Here's what the GOP candidate said about the matter, as reported in the AJC:

“I don’t know what happened. And with all due respect, none of us do because we’re not in the middle of the secured briefings,” said Handel, who faces Democrat Jon Ossoff in the June 20 runoff for the 6th District. “So I’m going to let the process work.”

She added: “We have investigations underway … I would suggest that all of us would let the process play out, and let the facts take us where the facts take us.”

Last week, Marco Rubio (who won the Sixth District in the 2016 GOP primary election), also indicated that he was interested in letting the facts of the investigation speak for themselves.

"We're a nation of laws, and we're going to follow those laws. There is now a special counsel as the law allows, and everyone should cooperate with that special counsel so they can conduct their work and put forth an investigation that is thorough and fair and arrives at the truth, wherever the truth might lead us," Rubio said.

Last week, Handel's campaign indicated that Rubio may make a campaign appearance ahead of the June 20th runoff. Nothing has been confirmed yet.
