Amid gubernatorial rumors, Nick Ayers is helping Pence form a PAC

Rumors continue to intensify that Georgia GOP strategist Nick Ayers might soon launch a bid for governor. However, as a close confidant of Vice President Mike Pence, it seems he also has some other irons in the fire.

On Wednesday, Bloomberg News reported that Ayers would run Pence's "Great America Committee" - a PAC aimed at helping Congressional Republicans win midterm elections.

“The vice president is playing a leading role in passing legislation on the Hill,” Ayers told the news outlet. “He wants to support House and Senate members who are helping pass the president’s agenda.”

While several press outlets speculate the move could signal Pence's interest in a future White House bid. Ayers pushed back at the theory, explaining that planning for the PAC began in December.

Meanwhile, the AJC reported on Wednesday that Ayers is recruiting a campaign team for a possible 2018 bid.
