Paul Ryan: 'We need someone who's tested and true' to replace Price

On Monday, Paul Ryan made an appearance at a rally promoting Karen Handel's candidacy for Congressional District 6. During a short and sweet speech, the Republican House Speaker told GOP supporters that they had "very big shoes to fill" replacing former Congressman Tom Price, but said Handel is the right person for the job.

"No offense, but you're kind of spoiled here in this district," Ryan said. "You went from Newt Gingrich to Johnny Isakson to Tom Price. ...These are very hard shoes to fill, but Karen Handel is the only person capable of filling those shoes."

Exclaiming that there is "much at stake" in the June 20th runoff election between Handel and Democrat Jon Ossoff, the House Speaker warned that outside liberal interests were pouring money into the election in order to buy the seat.

"The left and Nancy Pelosi, but I repeat myself, they are trying to stymie people here in the 6th District,” Ryan said. “They’re trying to hit you with an avalanche of TV advertising to get a guy who does not share your values, who doesn't even live in this district, to try and get our country where it was under the Obama era.”

"We need someone who's tested and true," he added. "We need Karen Handel."

Prior to Ryan's appearance, Handel took a shot at Ossoff's "flimsy" record.

"Do we really think a career staffer with a flimsy, inflated resume is going to be able to get anything done? We need experience, folks," Handel said. "We need someone with the track record I bring."
