While liberals rally around Ossoff, Bernie Sanders knows nothing of him
John Ossoff may have received millions from out-of-state uber-liberal organizations, but Bernie Sanders is not yet getting behind him.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Sanders isn't sure that Ossoff is authentic in the political views he touts.
“If you run as a Democrat, you’re a Democrat,” he said. “Some Democrats are progressive and some Democrats are not.”
Asked if he thought Ossoff is a progressive, Sanders said, "I'm not sure."
"Our job is to radically transform the Democratic Party,” Sanders said on Monday night at a rally. “It can’t be just symbolic, it has got to be real,. It has got to be that those ideas are allowed to become the dominant theme of the Democratic Party, and that’s the choice that Democrats are going to have to make.”
While an endorsement from Bernie Sanders would not necessarily help Ossoff win a traditionally red district like CD-6, the socialist icon's hesitation to label the Georgia Democrat candidate is indicative a the greater problem going into the runoff election: Not even Ossoff's own party knows where he stands.
