Stolen election equipment now lying in a landfill
It seems that stolen Cobb County election equipment, which was taken from a grocery store parking lot just before the election, is now lying in a landfill somewhere.
According to a new report from 11Alive, suspects arrested for the crime said they trashed the goods after determining that they were "useless." It seems that the equipment has no hope of being recovered.
"The dumpster has subsequently been emptied and deposited at a land fill," an official said. "It has been determined that any effort to retrieve the stolen equipment at the landfill would be unsuccessful."
The equipment was stolen from a poll worker's car on Saturday, though officials say the crime had no impact on Tuesday's election. According to reports, Secretary of State Brian Kemp was "furious" over the news.
“It is unacceptable that the Cobb County Elections Office waited two days to notify my office of this theft," Kemp said. "We have opened an investigation, and we are taking steps to ensure that it has no effect on the election tomorrow. I am confident that the results will not be compromised.”
